This flat leaf chive is highly flavorful, blending the taste of onion and soft garlic into one beautiful plant that functions both as a culinary herb and ornamental perennial. Both the succulent green leaves and lavender purple, lollipop-shaped flowers are edible. The foliage can be harvested for cooking or eating fresh from spring to early fall. A thick waxy coating on the leaves helps them store longer once cut. Pollinating bees and butterflies enjoy the blossoms for about seven weeks every year in midsummer, which makes it a prime candidate for edging vegetable gardens to help increase yields. This flat leaf chive is a hardy perennial in zones 5-9 and requires vernalization to flower.

This is a great garden plant, but is also a wonderful container plant. |
| Maintenance Notes |
Once planted there is little maintenance needed during the season. An application of a plant food should be applied at planting and then again every spring. Flower stems can be trimmed back after they are done blooming. Leaves can be harvested as long as they are available. This perennial will grow larger in year two, after it is well-established.
